The share of renewable energies in global energy demand has increased by just 2 percentage points to 12.6 percent since 2009. Yet the energy transition is critical to achieving global climate goals. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), our energy system must be Net Zero by 2050, i.e. no more greenhouse gases are emitted than can be sequestered. In Germany, by the way, the share of renewable energies was almost 20 percent in 2021.<\/span><\/p>

It is particularly problematic that the increase in energy consumption since Corona has mainly been met with the help of fossil energies and that new sources are also being developed for this purpose. As a result, more GHG emissions were emitted in 2021 than ever before. This more than compensated for the decrease in emissions caused by the Corona pandemic. However, global emissions must peak by 2025 at the latest in order to realise the climate targets. In addition, renewable energies also have immense advantages beyond greenhouse gas reduction and are not only cheaper than fossil fuels in the long term.<\/span><\/p>

The energy transition - if one can speak of it - has been too slow so far, yet there are many solutions. Of course, in the area of electricity with solar and wind power plants, but also, for example, in the area of heat with the help of geothermal energy and heat pumps. There are also solutions for sectors where reduction is still difficult, e.g. through climate-friendly urban planning or alternative drives.<\/span><\/p>
