Renovation of the listed roundhouse in Buchholz<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, based in Hamburg, is supporting the refurbishment of the listed Buchholz roundhouse, south of Hamburg.<\/p>\n

The semi-circular building with adjacent turntable is located about 500 metres from the station in Buchholz and served from 1918 as a shelter for locomotives and for maintenance work. The railway operated the roundhouse until the mid-1970s. After that, the building was sold and used commercially until a few years ago. It is one of the few remaining listed buildings of this type in northern Germany.<\/p>\n

The building is currently being converted into a modern residential complex. In the second construction phase, further condominiums are to be realised on the extensive outdoor area around the historic hub of WOHNEN LOKPARKS.<\/p>\n

Due to the historical use, the property was checked for soil contamination in advance of the planned conversion. Wild deposits and soil piles as well as contaminated \"hotspot areas\" were found in the soil. In the locomotive shed itself, there are old working pits that have been partially filled with soil and construction debris.<\/p>\n

The remediation of the open areas has already taken place in 2020. As part of a downstream inspection, M&P was able to prove successful remediation at the beginning of 2021 by drilling and taking topsoil mixture samples. The remediation of the working pits in the gutted roundhouse is currently underway. For this purpose, the backfills of the working pits and the contaminated bottom and wall areas of the brick and concrete pits are removed. Also here M&P accompanies and documents the remediation works. The resulting excavated soil \/ rubble is also sampled according to LAGA in order to be able to dispose of or recycle it properly afterwards. After completion of the remediation work and confirmation of safe living and working conditions, further conversion into flats will take place.<\/p>\n
